Vegan Winter Dress Coats

One of the things that I have found most challenging since becoming vegan is finding cruelty-free winter dress coats that I like and that don’t break the bank.  Now when I am talking dress coat, I am speaking of a tailored coat to wear to work or a formal event.   I have found vegan substitutions for so many other cold weather fashions, but it seems like every time I find a dress coat that I like there is some percentage of wool in it!  It drives me bananas.  Over the Thanksgiving holiday I had some friends staying over and my one friend is a long time vegan.  In the middle of catching up, my friend mentioned that I really should do a blog post on where to find affordable vegan dress coats because she needed a new one and was unable to find one that checked all of the boxes.  Always one who is up for a challenge, I decided to buckle down and see what I could find.  I am happy to report that after some serious internet research, I have found several fashionable, cruelty-free and affordable options!

If you are a fan of fit and flair, I’ve found the coat for you!  The Winterberry Tart Coat by Steve Madden is available at ModCloth.  This coat has great details including a stand up collar, bold black buttons and a tie at the waist to really define your figure.  Available in three colors; black, leopard print and ruby (shown below).

I was really excited to find out that TopShop has quite a few vegan options when it comes to dress coats.

Topshop puts a spin on the classic pea coat with this cruelty-free Twill Pea Coat in an updated green/khaki.  The bright gold buttons tie in the traditional military vibe.

All I’ve been reading about this year is “millennial pink” as the new color for fashion and interiors.  Well, if you are a fan of this soft, versatile pink, check out this fabulous Mutton Sleeve Belted Coat from TopShop.  The combo of the mutton sleeve, tie waist and millennial pink makes this a subtle statement piece.

Houndstooth is a timeless pattern that never goes out of style and I love the idea of making it front and center in an outfit.  This Houndstooth Coat from H & M is a simple silhouette which is perfect for such a statement pattern.  It does not have any buttons, but you could easily add a vegan leather belt in black to cinch it closed.

So now that I think about it, I don’t know why I was so frustrated trying to find a vegan dress coat.  I mean, sheesh….look at all of the fabulous ones that I just showed you and that was just scratching the surface of what I was able to find!  So, once again I have realized that being vegan in all parts of your life is totally doable…and of course totally worth it!
