Bead and Reel

Ever sit back and wish that a store existed that sold shoes, clothing, bags, accessories and jewelry that was all vegan?  Well my friend, wish no more.  Let me introduce you to Bead and Reel.  Based out of Los Angeles, this online ethical boutique offers eco-friendly, cruelty-free, sweatshop-free fashion.  Not only do they offer a wide variety of fashionable vegan finds, many of the items that they offer go the extra mile by giving back to various ethical causes, empowering women and supporting fair trade.  Their mission permeates all the way down to what they use to ship their products!  Bead and Reel only uses shipping supplies that are recycled and recyclable.   If you think it can’t get any better…well, it does.  The folks at Bead and Reel also chose a charity each month to donate to and this month it is the no-kill, cage-free cat rescue Peninsula Friends of Animals. Yep, these are some good people.

Now, let’s take a look at some of what Bead and Reel has to offer on their site, shall we?

Gotta love a good trench coat and I am digging this Mini Trench by Jonäno.  Made from organic cotton and organic hemp, this black denim trench has a slight sheen and would look great dressed up for a night out on the town or dressed down to run to the grocery store.

This Striped Kaftan Dress by tonlé looks so effortlessly chic!  This dress is made in Cambodia and is created from up-cycled remnant jersey strips in a unique zero waste production, so each dress will be one-of-a-kind.

Look fabulous and help to empower women in developing countries with the Zoe Clutch.  This bag is part of the Catrinka Project which works with manufacturers that focus on investing on women artisans providing them with opportunities to support themselves and their families.  Made by local tailors in Sierra Leone as part of Near Far, the Zoe Clutch makes a statement with its bright, bold African print.

Bead and Reel also carries several bags from EcoCork, which manufactures sustainable products made from cork out of Portugal.  One of my favorites is the Convertable Slingbag which is made from cork and vegan suede.  This bag is not only fashionable but also practical as it is water repellent and water resistant.

When it comes to shoes, Bead and Reel pulls out all of the stops.  So many cute, vegan shoes!  I am in love with the Alden Cut-Out Bootie.  Hand made by artisans in Spain with solar energy, this booty by Bhava is made from Italian vegan leather, cork insole and vegan suede lining.  I could see wearing these all of the time with my favorite pair of jeans.

I am a huge fan of sneakers.  I have far too many pairs, but that doesn’t stop me from wanting more, like the Marcos Washed Black Sneaker from The People’s Movement.  This classic sneaker has a skater vibe going on with a great washed-out organic cotton upper and thick white sole.  The People’s Movement is an ethical company that has a mission to stand up against single-use plastics.  A portion of all of their sales goes to 5 Gyres, a non-profit that enables systematic reduction of plastics through oceanic research, collaboration and action.

One of my mottos is that you can never have too much jewelry.  Good thing, because there are lots of great pieces that I want to snatch up from Bead and Reel.  The Flat Cat Cuff is made from recycled bronze and is a great statement piece.  The artist, Natalie Frigo, uses only recycled metals and personally selected, ethically sourced gemstones in her pieces.

The Talon Bangle is another piece by Natalie Frigo that I am coveting.  I love the rough edges and that every bangle is made to order so each one is unique.

I’ve barely scratched the surface of all that Bead and Reel has to offer, but hopefully I’ve peaked your interest enough so you will head on over to their site and check it out for yourself!
